Malala Yousafzai, in a 2011 interview with CNN, discussing her activism on behalf of girls seeking education in Pakistan.
YES YES YES!! I love this. FOREVER REBLOG!!
YOU GO GIRL!
I’m going to point out again for those who don’t click links: This young woman was shot in the head and neck by the Taliban for speaking out on behalf of women’s rights in Pakistan.
She is fifteen years old. She is also still alive. It is likely that she will suffer lifelong language and coordination difficulties given where she was shot (left side of her head) but she hasn’t given up her fight.
While Islamic clerics in Pakistan have issued a Fatwa against the men who tried to murder her, the Taliban has re-iterated its intent to murder her and her father.
I can’t express how much of a hero this woman is. She’s only fifteen, and yet she’s faced such impossible odds, and she’s still fighting. I just wish there was something I could do to help her.
It’s symbolic, but it would send out a big message of support: nominate her for the Nobel Peace Prize.
guys, sign the petition. it takes you 5 seconds to honor the bravery of this strong girl.
Malala was plotted to be killed by the Taliban for her activism for girls’ right to education. She was shot in the head as she was coming home from school after taking an exam. She was severely wounded but is getting better after receiving treatment in the UK. She is a very brave girl who isn’t afraid to speak up for girls’ right to education, and she’s very deserving of not only this prize, but worldwide recognition for her political activism.
Today the evil forces finally got to another malala. as she was going home from school, a 12 year girl named syeda mehzar zehra was shot dead. along with her father. She wasn’t killed just because she wanted to go to school but because she was a shia, meaning she belonged to a muslim sect that is very much in contrast to what the Taliban believes to be “Islam”. This news hasn’t even become a big enough issue among the media yet, because in many areas of pakistani media there is either too much bias against shias or they are too scared to take side with the goof people to get on the bad people’s bad side. It’s not just a fight of girl’s education but a fight to live, exist and freedom for one to live as they wish.

Japan’s Spectacular Tunnels of Light.
If you happen to be in Japan from now until March 31st, 2013, be sure to check out one of Japan’s most stunning displays of light called Winter Illuminations at Nabana no Sato, a botanical garden turned light theme park on the island of Nagashima in Kuwana. Opened just yesterday, it’s already been called one of the best winter light shows in all of Japan. The park really outdoes itself by using millions of sparkling LED’s all over the vast grounds including on the water and in the gardens. This years theme is ‘nature’ and it promises gorgeous scenes including a beautiful sunrise inspired by Mt. Fuji at dawn, a rainbow across the sky, and even an aurora. The stars of the show are the famous walk-through tunnels of light that completely envelop the viewer, making it seem as if they’re walking through bright, magical portals.

This koala joey was found abandoned beside a road in Brisbane, Australia last month. Named after the man who discovered him, Raymond was dehydrated and skinny, and weighed just 260g. It is believed his mother was either been hit by a car or was too ill to care for the 2-3-month-old. Initially, carers feared that Raymond wouldn’t survive because he weighed so little and wouldn’t feed properly. Julie Zyzniewski, who is looking after him, says: He had to be coaxed to feed. He was frail and his future was uncertain. Suddenly, one day he decided life wasn’t so bad and he has been absolutely powering along ever since.
Now, Raymond spends his days sitting at Julie’s desk, where she is able to feed him his diet of special bottle formula every three hours. According to Julie she is fortunate that her boss Paulette Jones has a soft spot for wildlife.
